The 1940s brought a halt in jean production ,due to World War II and the demand for raw materials it placed on the economy. This did not prevent American soldiers from bringing their valued denim with them to wear during casual times. After the war, denim jeans became even more associated with leisure and entertainment and less with work. United States military men unintentionally were serving as denim ambassadors to the world by showing how jeans could be worn casually.
